Ethiopia’s Ministry of Industry and Ethio Telecom have introduced E-Tamirt, a new business-to-business digital platform designed to strengthen industrial trade and improve the way manufacturers access markets.

At the centre of the initiative is an online system that enables producers to list goods, source inputs and transact directly with buyers. Officials say the platform is intended to ease long-standing bottlenecks in procurement and distribution that have raised operating costs for factories.

Industry Minister Melaku Alebel said manufacturers often face difficulty accessing reliable supply channels, adding that the new platform provides a structured mechanism to support sales within Ethiopia and in neighbouring African markets. He noted that improved access to digital trading tools is expected to strengthen production capacity and support innovation across the sector.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader industrial ambitions, which seek to lift the competitiveness of domestically produced goods and reduce the country’s exposure to imported products. Authorities say the platform is positioned to encourage more predictable trading systems for small and large manufacturers.

Representatives from the manufacturing sector who attended the launch said the platform opens an opportunity to resolve delays in the movement of goods, particularly in areas where market information and supply chain transparency have been limited.
