Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has extended the appointment of Lieutenant General Tadesse Worede as Chief Administrator of the Tigray Interim Administration for a further year, effective April 9, 2026. The extension follows a review of Lieutenant General Tadesse’s annual performance report.

The decision is grounded in Article 62(9) of the Ethiopian Constitution, alongside Proclamation No. 359/1995 and Council of Ministers Regulation No. 479/2013, which govern interim regional administrations. Lieutenant General Tadesse has led the interim administration since April 2025.

The review comes at a critical time for post-conflict recovery in the region. The interim administration’s term is nearing completion, placing additional focus on stability, reconstruction and federal oversight.

Businesses and investors engaged in reconstruction and development projects in Tigray are closely following the assessment, as it will influence future governance and investment decisions in the region.

Overall, the extension ensures continuity in Tigray’s interim governance and provides more time for stabilisation and reconstruction efforts under federal oversight.
