The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration said it has delivered more than 3 million trade registration and licensing services through its online platform during the 2024/25 budget year, surpassing its target.
Trade and Regional Integration Minister Kassahun Gofe (PhD) said 3.02 million services were processed nationwide, compared with a plan of 2.86 million, marking a 106 percent achievement. The figure represents a year-on-year increase of more than 709,000.
The ministry also reported progress in inspections, noting that 3.1 million post-license checks were carried out against a plan of 2.89 million. The expansion of weekend markets exceeded expectations, with 1,567 markets operating nationwide compared with a planned 1,300.
Export earnings reached $8.3 billion, above the $5.15 billion target. This represents an increase of $4.6 billion from the 2016 budget year, when export revenues stood at $3.71 billion.
Officials said Ethiopia has finalized a national strategy to implement the African Continental Free Trade Agreement. Accession to the World Trade Organization also moved forward, with the fifth working party meeting held in March 2025 and preparations underway for the sixth session later this year.
The ministry added that a new national quality framework has been established to align with international standards and that work to operationalize e-commerce is advancing as part of the government’s Digital Ethiopia strategy.
