Ethiopia’s Ministry of Water and Energy has signed contracts worth 2 billion 887 million birr to expand drinking water and sanitation infrastructure across several regions.

The agreements, formalised by State Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Ambassador Dr Asfaw Dingamo, are part of the government’s efforts to address longstanding gaps in access to clean water. Projects under the One Wash Programme will cover feasibility studies, design, construction of water distribution systems, and monitoring of sanitation facilities, with completion scheduled within one year.

The ministry has finalised 12 contracts with multiple contractors. Notable projects include the Wagile drinking water and sanitation scheme, delivered with Green Construction and Wada Haula Association, valued at 719 million birr, and the Elwoya project, implemented with Green Water Works Contractor and Jarso Water Works Construction, at 950 million birr. The Darolabu project, in collaboration with Wada Haula Association, Yishak Abebe General Contractor, and Shawa Work Consortium, carries a contract value of 1.04 billion birr.

Additional agreements, totalling 180 million birr, will rehabilitate water wells within 60 days through partnerships with Kidmer Engineering, Softumer Trading and Construction, and Fafi Water Works Contractors.
