Ethiopia’s National Election Board has approved the results from 723 constituencies out of 1,139 that held elections during the country’s seventh general election, the board said.

The announcement came as the electoral body reviewed complaints submitted by political parties and individual candidates following the vote.

The board said most of the complaints filed over the election process had been reviewed through legal procedures. Of the cases examined, 75 complaints related to polling stations were rejected after the board assessed evidence submitted by the parties involved.

The complaints reviewed by the board included allegations of voter pressure, restrictions on party representatives’ access to polling stations and vote-counting processes, as well as claims involving underage voting.

According to officials, the board investigated 129 complaints and appeals submitted by political parties and independent candidates. The review process included hearing witnesses, examining documents and video evidence, and allowing election officials and administrators involved in the complaints to provide responses.

The board said complaints concerning 10 constituencies remain under review, while a decision was made to repeat vote counting in one constituency in Halaba. Decisions on the remaining 43 complaints are expected to be issued shortly.
