The National Election Board of Ethiopia said more than 42 million voters have registered for Ethiopia’s seventh general election, offering the clearest indication yet of the scale of participation expected in the upcoming poll.

In an update released on Saturday, the board said a total of 42,167,911 voters had been recorded as of April 9, 2026. Men account for 22,746,079 of the registered voters, while 19,421,832 are women.

The figures also highlight participation among voters with disabilities, with 96,274 male and 67,978 female registrants recorded so far. The latest update forms part of a series of operational disclosures by the election body as it prepares for the nationwide vote.

The board has not indicated when registration will close, but the rising figures suggest momentum is building as preparations for the poll advance. The election is expected to be one of the largest electoral exercises in the country’s history.

Businesses and investors are closely monitoring the registration process, as a credible and inclusive election is seen as critical for long-term political stability and economic confidence in Ethiopia.

Overall, the registration of more than 42 million voters marks a significant milestone in Ethiopia’s democratic process and demonstrates strong public engagement ahead of the seventh general election.
