The Ethiopian Customs Commission has extended duty-free import incentives worth 329.2 billion birr over the past 10 months. These incentives were granted to support investment and production activities across agriculture, manufacturing, mining, tourism, and infrastructure sectors.

The support covered large-scale government projects including corridor development works, as well as imports of industrial machinery and agricultural inputs essential for expanding productive capacity.

The programme aims to facilitate trade while strengthening Ethiopia’s manufacturing and production base through reduced import costs. At the same time, stricter monitoring enabled the recovery of 1.7 billion birr worth of assets diverted from their intended purpose.

Ethiopia continues to rely on such customs incentives to attract investment and ease pressure on businesses facing foreign exchange shortages and high import costs.

The Customs Commission stated that oversight activities will continue to ensure all beneficiaries use the incentives according to approved investment objectives.

This significant incentive package reflects the government’s strategy to boost industrial growth and infrastructure development across the country.
