The Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) and the Federal Democratic Republic Technical and Vocational Training Institute (FTVTI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on capacity building, training, and technical support in the field of artificial intelligence.
The agreement, signed by EAII Director General Worku Gachena (PhD) and FTVTI Director General Biruk Kedir (PhD), establishes a framework for joint initiatives, including the introduction of a first-degree programme in AI technology.
The partnership is intended to integrate AI into technical and vocational education programmes, aligning training with the growing demand for skills in AI, robotics and intelligent manufacturing.
The Ethiopian government has identified artificial intelligence as a strategic priority in recent years, establishing the EAII in 2020 to coordinate national efforts in research, policy and industry development. The institute has since worked on projects ranging from health diagnostics to agriculture, while also contributing to the drafting of Ethiopia’s first AI policy framework.
The collaboration with FTVTI marks the first time EAII will provide structured support to degree-level training programmes in AI.
