Ethio telecom has agreed to provide technical and strategic support to Cameroon Telecommunications after the two operators signed a Master Service Agreement that places the Ethiopian firm inside one of Central Africa’s largest digital modernisation drives. The deal follows CAMTEL’s assessment mission to Ethiopia earlier this year, during which its executives examined the systems and structures behind Ethiopia’s expanding digital services sector.

CAMTEL will draw on Ethio telecom’s advisory input as it works to upgrade mobile networks, expand digital financial services, and shift more government functions onto digital platforms. One of the early projects identified under the agreement is Blue Money, a mobile payment service intended to widen access to electronic transactions in Cameroon. The cooperation also covers the establishment of a government cloud platform and guidance on raising network capacity to 4G and 5G standards.

Operational improvement is a second focus area, with Ethio telecom expected to share practices on information systems, workflow automation, and customer service models. Both operators have also opened the door for additional projects, including enterprise solutions and new consumer digital offerings, as the collaboration matures.

CAMTEL runs the country’s national fibre backbone, which spans more than 15,000 km, and manages Cameroon’s only Tier III-certified data centre on the outskirts of Yaoundé. Ethio telecom’s participation in the initiative aligns with its Digital & Beyond 2028 strategy, which outlines selective engagements outside Ethiopia as part of its growth plan.
