Following Benjamin Netanyahu's country's recognition of Somaliland, the Eritrean government issued a statement calling on the United Nations Security Council to provide an unequivocal response.

Eritrea’s Ministry of Information issued a brief statement saying, “The plot is not a secret, but has been going on for a long time,” warning that it would bring “dangerous regional and international crisis and unrest.”

Information Minister Yaane Gebre Meskel shared his government’s statement on his X page and stressed that the members of the Security Council should give him an unequivocal response.

The statement said that “China should shoulder a greater responsibility, especially considering the issue of ‘Taiwan’.”

It is worth noting that the regime of President Isaias Afwerki, which has been at odds with the Ethiopian government, has reached a special cooperation framework agreement with Somalia and Egypt.

Following the news of Somaliland's recognition on Friday, several Arab and African countries issued statements expressing their opposition to Israel's decision.

The Security Council has called an emergency meeting on the issue, and council members such as China are expected to oppose the resolution.
