Eritrea, in a brief statement issued by its Ministry of Information, called Ethiopia's accusations "meaningless" and announced that it had no interest in getting involved in this controversy.

The Ethiopian Foreign Ministry had accused Eritrea of invading Ethiopian territory, occupying certain areas, and supporting militants in a letter written on Saturday, and had made a request for negotiations.

Eritrea has denied the accusations, saying it has "no intention or desire to add fuel to a pointless conflict and escalate the situation."

In a statement titled "False allegations to further future agendas," Eritrea dismissed the Ethiopian government's accusations as "false and fabricated."

The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a letter dated February 06, 2025, to the Eritrean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called on the Eritrean army to withdraw from the sovereign territories it claims to control and to be ready for negotiations.

Dr. Gideon Timotios stated in his letter that Eritrean troops have penetrated further into the northeastern border of Ethiopia than they previously controlled.

The minister stated that the activities in the border areas over the past few days indicate that the Eritrean government has chosen a path that will further exacerbate the already high tensions between the two countries.

In the same letter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the Eritrean government of providing "direct material support and assistance" to various unnamed armed groups in the areas bordering the two countries.
