Eritrea's Information Minister, Yaman Gebre Meskel, accused the Prosperity Council of "constantly spreading negative and false information" on his Facebook page on Monday, August 5, 2017, following a statement issued by the Prosperity Council on Friday.

Ato Yamene added that "shameful campaign," Eritrea's history, policies, development plans, potential, and role in the region are being subjected to "serious and unjust attacks."

In a statement issued after concluding its recent regular meeting, the Prosperity Party Council said that forces it described as "enemies embroiled in a protracted war" are trying to provoke conflict in Ethiopia using various tactics.

The council did not name the "enemies" in the statement, but said they were using "extremists" operating in different parts of the country to try to divide the unity of the people and the government.

The Eritrean government, which fought alongside the Ethiopian government in the war in northern Ethiopia, has been at odds with the Ethiopian government since the Pretoria Agreement and is currently preparing for war.
