Ethiopian Political Parties Joint Council warned that the upcoming elections may not be free and fair due to the law and order situation and urged for legal amendments for the 7th national elections.

In a letter to the House of People's Representatives, the Election Board, and the Prime Minister's Office, the council warned, "The current realistic peace, security, and safety situation in our country does not allow political parties to operate freely."

It’s said this will prevent the upcoming 7th general election and local elections from being free, fair and democratic.

The council has detailed four main issues that require legal and procedural reforms to ensure that the elections are free, fair, and democratic: collecting signatures of candidates, financial support from the government, changes to the electoral system, and the election schedule.
