Enat Bank Registers Shares in Latest Step for Ethiopia’s Young Capital Market

Enat Bank has registered 6,856,310 existing shares with the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority, becoming the latest Ethiopian company to bring its securities under the country’s emerging capital market regulatory framework.

The authority approved the bank’s registration statement on August 27, covering shares held by existing shareholders. The registration does not constitute a public offering or an invitation to buy or sell the shares.

Ethiopia’s Capital Market Proclamation requires securities offered to the public to be registered with the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority, while the Public Offer and Trading of Securities Directive sets out rules governing their registration and trading.

The registration represents another step in the gradual formalisation of Ethiopia’s securities market, which is still in its early stages following the establishment of the Ethiopian Securities Exchange.

The authority said the registration should not be interpreted as an endorsement of Enat Bank’s shares or as a recommendation to investors.

Enat Bank joins a growing group of Ethiopian companies whose securities have entered the regulatory system as the country builds the legal and institutional infrastructure for a functioning capital market.
