Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has said he opposes any unilateral actions on the Nile River, saying anyone who thinks Egypt is ignoring its water rights is "wrong."

Sisi, speaking at a press conference in Cairo alongside his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni, said the annual flow of water from the Nile tributaries is 1,600 billion cubic meters, most of which is lost through forests, wetlands, evaporation, and groundwater.

He added, "The amount of water that reaches the Nile is small; Egypt and Sudan together receive about 85 billion cubic meters of water, which is only 4 percent of the total."

The Egyptian leader stressed that his country has no alternative water resources and that the amount of rainfall it receives is low, and that giving up this share of water for Egypt would be "like giving up its life."
