It has been revealed that the Egyptian Defense Forces have identified a military base for the troops deployed under the African Union Somalia Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM).

During last week's visit to Horn of Africa countries, the Egyptian Army Technical Committee assessed the environment, climate and community interactions and identified key cities for the Egyptian Army.

According to Garwe Online, the Egyptian military is expected to soon deploy to the towns of Balad, Johar, Burane and Mehdai in the Middle Shebele region where Burundian peacekeepers are stationed.

The Ministry of Defense of Somalia recently reported that following the completion of the first training of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Egyptian soldiers are about to be deployed in the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSOM) in Somalia.

It described the situation as "Egypt's commitment to Somalia's security and its support to strengthen the capacity of the Somali National Army under the framework of the new African Union mission."

Regarding the presence of Egyptian soldiers in Somalia, Ethiopia is known to have said recently that "it is not a comfort, but it is not a threat."

At the time, the Ethiopian ambassador to Somalia, Suleiman Dedefo, told the Somali media that the presence of the Egyptian army in Somalia "does not scare or concern Ethiopia".
