Egyptian Foreign Minister Bedir Abdel-Ati saying the Renaissance Dam is illegal under international law, Ethiopia completed the dam without reaching an agreement with the downstream countries.
"The Nile is a shared river. No country can control the flow of the river alone. But Ethiopia has not only done so in violation of international law, but has also taken steps that threaten the water security of the region," he said.
He noted that negotiations on this issue, which had been going on for years, had now concluded, and explained that the failure to reach an agreement was due to Ethiopia's "intransigent stance."
The minister further warned that if Egypt's water needs are affected by this dam, it will take self-defense measures in accordance with international law.
He confirmed that he has submitted a letter to the Security Council regarding this.
