"Journalists reporting for Deutsche Welle from various parts of Ethiopia have been temporarily suspended from reporting," the media outlet announced.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, Deutsche Welle said, "In a letter written today, the Ethiopian Media Authority accused Deutsche Welle and its agents of violating Ethiopian laws and regulations and of not respecting professional ethics."

The media institution noted in its statement that "since the 1980s, it has been reporting on Ethiopia's political, economic, and social issues, as well as the activities and events of local, regional, and international organizations, institutions, and associations operating in Ethiopia, including the African Union, through its correspondents in Ethiopia."

The statement also noted that "since 2010, it has been collecting information and disseminating independent, balanced and accurate reports to the Ethiopian people through its 9 representatives in Mekelle, Bahir Dar, Dessie, Addis Ababa, Hawassa, Dire Dawa and Assosa, increasing the number of its representatives."

However, "in its letter, the Ethiopian Media Authority accused Deutsche Welle and its agents of violating Ethiopian laws and regulations and not respecting professional ethics," the statement said.

Therefore, the statement stated that "effective today, the work permits of Deutsche Welle reporters in Ethiopia have been temporarily suspended," adding that "the authorities have not yet announced the duration of the temporary suspension."
