Djibouti, which has been embroiled in tensions with Hargeisa following Israel's recognition of Somaliland, has closed Somaliland's diplomatic office and recalled its diplomats from Hargeisa, a government official confirmed.

A Somaliland official, who asked not to be identified, said Hargeisa had also summoned its diplomats in Djibouti for consultations.

The current situation reflects the low point in diplomatic relations between the two neighbors since Israel recognized Somaliland as a state.

This diplomatic standoff is expected to impact the travel of Somaliland officials and prominent individuals, especially members of the Somaliland business community, who use Djiboutian passports for international travel.

Djibouti is one of Somalia's neighbors that has strongly opposed Israel's recognition of Somaliland.
