Djibouti's ruling party has announced that it has nominated President Ismail Omar Guelleh as its candidate for a sixth term.

In a statement issued in October, the party announced that it had officially nominated Ismail Omar Guelleh, the President of the Republic of Djibouti, as its candidate for the presidential elections to be held in April 2026.

The ruling party made this announcement at a party conference held at the Palais du People, attended by supporters from across the country.

The President expressed his acceptance of the nomination and reaffirmed his commitment to peace, development, and unity at a time of global challenges.

It is worth noting that the Djibouti parliament recently raised the age limit for presidential candidates.

President Guelleh, 77, has been in power in Djibouti, a small country in the Horn of Africa, since 1999.
