Ethiopian journalist Tadesse Dagnachew has been given another court date after police requested additional time to complete their investigation into his case, leaving him in detention amid continued uncertainty over the grounds for his arrest.

Dagnachew, a journalist with NBC, was arrested on August 24, 2026. He appeared before court on Tuesday, Pagume 2, but police told the court they had not completed their investigation and were still gathering information, his lawyer, Hailu Tadesse told Addis Maleda.

The court granted the request and scheduled the next hearing for September 19, directing police to complete their investigation and present their findings, the lawyer said.

Hailu said the reason for Dagnachew’s detention had not been clearly established. He added that several other individuals arrested in connection with the same case had been released after being granted bail.

The latest adjournment extends Dagnachew’s detention while investigators continue to gather information. His lawyer said the September 19 hearing is expected to be the final court appearance related to the investigation.
