Dangote Industries, the conglomerate controlled by Africa’s richest man, has appointed Ralph Mupita, chief executive of MTN Group Ltd., to the board of its fertiliser business as it prepares to expand production and pursue a potential listing in Nigeria, Bloomberg reported.

Vishwajit Sinha, managing director of Dangote Fertiliser Ltd., confirmed the appointment in an email response to questions.

The company is increasing its urea production capacity from around three million metric tonnes per year, with plans to add additional units that could bring total output to nine million metric tonnes. The expansion is part of Dangote’s broader strategy to reduce fertiliser imports and position Nigeria as a regional exporter.

Mupita’s appointment is expected to strengthen governance and investor confidence ahead of the listing. He has led MTN Group since 2020, overseeing its digital transformation and expansion across Africa. His experience in corporate strategy and capital markets could support Dangote Fertiliser’s growth and financing plans.
