China has strongly condemned the United States on Tuesday for its increased military presence near Venezuela, cautioning that Washington's actions have escalated regional tensions and jeopardized peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean.

"For an extended period, under the guise of fighting drug trafficking, the United States has persistently augmented its military presence in the Caribbean waters adjacent to Venezuela," stated China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sun Lei, during an emergency session of the Security Council concerning Venezuela.

Sun contended that "the actions and rhetoric of the US have resulted in ongoing tensions in the region, raising significant concerns among neighboring countries and the global community." He accused Washington of breaching international standards, emphasizing that the US's actions "seriously violate the sovereignty, security, and legitimate interests of other nations, egregiously contravene the UN Charter and international law, and pose a threat to peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean."

According to Sun, there is a growing opposition to the US measures as "an increasing number of countries in the region and beyond have expressed serious concern and strong condemnation regarding the actions of the US."
