China and Myanmar have agreed to deepen cooperation in infrastructure, energy, trade and technology as the two countries seek to advance a long-term partnership built around connectivity and economic development.

The agreement followed Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing’s state visit to China from June 15 to 19, 2026, where he met Chinese President Xi Jinping and held discussions on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding practical cooperation.

The two countries said they would accelerate the implementation of major connectivity projects under the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC), including the Kyaukpyu Deep-Sea Port and the Muse-Mandalay Railway. The projects are expected to be developed based on commercial feasibility, financial sustainability and the national priorities of both countries.

Energy cooperation was also highlighted, with Beijing and Naypyidaw agreeing to expand collaboration around oil and gas pipelines, electricity connectivity and sustainable energy partnerships. China reiterated its willingness to continue development support, while Myanmar said it would work to advance agreed infrastructure and public service projects.

The partnership also covers trade and investment expansion, with both sides supporting greater use of the yuan-kyat direct settlement mechanism and seeking new opportunities in sectors including agriculture, mining, digital technology and artificial intelligence.

During the talks, China expressed support for Myanmar’s development path and efforts toward stability, while Myanmar reaffirmed its support for China’s position on Taiwan and other issues Beijing considers related to its sovereignty.

The two countries also agreed to strengthen cooperation on security matters, including efforts to combat cross-border crimes such as online fraud, human trafficking, illegal border activities, drug trafficking and smuggling.

China and Myanmar pledged to increase coordination through regional and international platforms, including ASEAN, the United Nations and other multilateral forums, while supporting deeper regional economic cooperation.

The visit resulted in the signing of several cooperation documents covering transport, science and technology, public health, intellectual property, human resources development and media exchanges.
