CEO of Russian Drone Manufacturer Wounded in Suspected Assassination Attempt

The chief executive of Russian drone manufacturer Uraldrone Plant has been injured in a vehicle explosion, while his security guard was killed, according to Russian emergency services. Vladimir Tkachuk, who leads the company that produces Upyr drones, was taken to intensive care in serious condition after the explosion, Russia’s state news agency TASS reported.

The incident occurred when the vehicle carrying Tkachuk and his security guard exploded. The guard, who was also the driver, died as a result of the blast. Russian authorities have opened a criminal investigation under a provision of the country’s criminal code covering murder committed through a generally dangerous method.

Tkachuk’s company produces the Upyr drone, a type of unmanned aircraft used by Russian forces during the war in Ukraine, according to Russian state media. TASS reported that Tkachuk’s name appears on Ukraine’s Myrotvorets website, which publishes information on individuals it accuses of actions against Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The listing was reportedly added in January 2025.

Authorities have not publicly identified those responsible for the explosion or confirmed a motive.
