CBS News has terminated the contract of “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley, according to two sources at the network, marking another departure from the programme as it undergoes a period of sustained internal restructuring.

The termination was communicated in an email from “60 Minutes” executive producer Nick Bilton, who informed Pelley that his employment was ended “for cause” with immediate effect.

The development follows reported tensions within CBS News, including remarks attributed to Pelley concerning the network’s leadership.

“60 Minutes”, the longest-running primetime news programme in the United States, is undergoing what appears to be one of its most significant periods of personnel change in recent years.
