Commercial Bank of Ethiopia has taken platinum sponsorship of the 70th anniversary of the Ethiopian National Theatre, backing a 70 day celebration programme held under the theme “70 Years in 70 Days With Our Neighbours.”

Bereket Tadesse, general manager of the Ethiopian National Theatre, said during the anniversary event that the institution would promote the bank as part of an international tour planned to mark the milestone. He thanked the lender for its platinum level backing.

During the ceremony, Haileyesus Bekele, vice president for customer experience at the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, said the theatre had spent 70 years promoting Ethiopian culture and values. He noted that both organisations are long established institutions with a shared focus on serving the country.

Haileyesus added that the bank has continued to modernise its operations, introducing digital payment systems and expanding its service model. He said the lender is also opening additional branches abroad in cities with large Ethiopian and Ethiopian origin communities to strengthen its competitiveness.

For the first half of the current fiscal year, the bank reported gross profit of 36.19 billion birr. It said transactions conducted through its digital banking platforms surpassed nine trillion birr in the first half of the 2025/26 fiscal year, accounting for nearly 88 percent of total transfers and payments.
