The Brazilian government, under the leadership of former President Jair Bolsonaro, has faced pressure to amend laws that reduce prison time for individuals convicted of crimes.

This situation escalated within the legislative assembly as discussions intensified.

As security forces attempted to reinforce the assembly's authority, the discussions became more heated; a proposal to release a specific law was made, leading to police intervention to ensure its passage.

Following the elections held in 2022, which were influenced by Bolsonaro's administration, a case emerged alleging that 27 individuals were sentenced to lengthy prison terms.

Since the beginning of the month, the former president has initiated the enforcement of the prison sentences that had been imposed.

Supporters of Bolsonaro have presented cases related to the government's actions, which include proposals to amend laws that reduce prison time, to the assembly for consideration.

The proposed laws indicate that as Bolsonaro's administration faced decline, supporters attempted to infiltrate government offices to secure a pathway for their release.

According to Bolsonaro's guards, the former president's request for medical treatment to be granted to prisoners has not received a timely response.

Due to health concerns raised by Bolsonaro, the guards have requested that the imposed prison sentences be reconsidered to allow for a more humane treatment of the inmates.
