Uganda’s opposition presidential candidate Bobi Wine has reportedly been removed from his residence in Kampala by government security forces, his son, Solomon Wine, said on social media platform X.

According to Solomon, his parents were taken by Ugandan soldiers and Special Forces personnel to an undisclosed location. Earlier reports indicated that security personnel had entered Bobi Wine’s residence and that he was taken away by helicopter.

The development comes as Uganda’s presidential election vote count continues. Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni is reported to be leading for a seventh consecutive term, while Bobi Wine’s campaign has mobilised significant voter support, signalling a potential shift in the country’s political landscape.

Local police stated they had no information regarding Bobi Wine’s whereabouts when approached for comment. The final results of the election are expected to be officially announced today, Saturday.

Since Thursday, the Ugandan government has suspended internet services nationwide, citing security concerns amid the election.
