Binance Pledges $250,000 to Support Ebola Response in DRC and Uganda

Binance has committed US dollars 250,000 in humanitarian assistance to support efforts to contain the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, directing funds to frontline medical and emergency response operations in affected areas.

The cryptocurrency exchange said the funding will be shared equally between the Uganda Red Cross Society and Doctors Without Borders (MSF), supporting emergency healthcare services, disease surveillance, public awareness campaigns and the provision of protective equipment for frontline workers.

The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, has increased pressure on health systems in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and neighbouring regions. Health authorities and humanitarian organisations have intensified efforts to contain transmission and prevent further cross-border spread.

According to Binance, the funding is intended to support rapid response activities in high-risk communities with limited access to healthcare infrastructure and public health resources. The assistance will also support contact tracing, sanitation measures and community-based prevention programmes.

Richard Teng, co-chief executive of Binance, said the contribution aims to support organisations responding to the outbreak under challenging conditions.

The Uganda Red Cross Society said the funding would strengthen its capacity to reach vulnerable communities and reinforce frontline response efforts. Doctors Without Borders also highlighted concerns over the pace of the outbreak and the challenges posed by insecurity and limited healthcare access in affected areas.

Humanitarian agencies have warned that the spread of cases across multiple health zones and into neighbouring countries increases the risk of a wider regional health emergency if containment efforts are not sustained.

The donation forms part of Binance's broader social impact initiatives in Africa, where the company has supported programmes related to financial inclusion, education and digital skills development. The company said the latest contribution reflects an effort to support urgent public health needs through partnerships with humanitarian organisations operating on the ground.
