BGI Ethiopia has completed and handed over a 10 million birr surgical theatre at Chefe Kotijebesa Health Centre in Hawassa, in a project expected to improve access to surgical care for about 30,000 residents. The facility, built as part of the brewer's corporate social responsibility programme, is intended to strengthen healthcare services in one of Hawassa's densely populated, low-income communities. According to the company, the new operating theatre will particularly improve access to surgical care for mothers and children.

The project was handed over to the health centre in a ceremony attended by representatives of Hawassa City Administration, health officials and community leaders. The company said the operating theatre has been built to the required technical standards and is expected to enable the health centre to provide faster and more comprehensive surgical services.

The project was implemented in collaboration with Hawassa City Administration, the city's health bureau and community representatives. BGI Ethiopia said it will continue investing in community programmes focused on healthcare, education, environmental protection and sustainable social development.
