Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met in Moscow on September 25 during the World Atomic Week forum, agreeing to develop a bilateral cooperation roadmap by the end of the year.

Lukashenko said the two countries had identified key areas for collaboration and emphasised measurable targets. “We should outline not only the areas of cooperation, but also specific targets: from overall trade to the number of units of equipment and machinery Belarus plans to provide, and vice versa, Ethiopia’s deliveries to Belarus,” he said.

The Belarusian leader highlighted agriculture, food production, joint ventures in Ethiopia, and military-technical cooperation as priority sectors. He invited Abiy to visit Belarus to review industries and explore partnership opportunities.

Abiy identified agriculture and construction as central to Ethiopia’s interests, noting Belarus’ tractor manufacturing capacity and the potential for joint production to serve East African markets. He also expressed Ethiopia’s willingness to collaborate on construction equipment and acknowledged Belarus’ expertise in military-technical support.

The two leaders previously met in October 2024 at the BRICS summit in Kazan, where Lukashenko reaffirmed Belarus’ readiness to share technologies and strengthen bilateral ties with Ethiopia.
