Barrick Mining Corp. has regained control of its Loulo-Gounkoto gold complex in Mali following a 431 million US dollars settlement that resolves a two-year dispute with the West African nation’s authorities, Bloomberg reported.

The agreement, reached with Mali’s military leadership, includes the release of several Barrick employees who had been detained for over a year and the removal of arrest warrants against the company’s chief executive and general manager, according to Barrick’s legal representative in Mali.

In addition to freeing personnel, the settlement clears long-standing fiscal and customs disputes that had effectively halted one of Barrick’s most significant gold operations. Under the deal, Barrick will pay 244 billion CFA francs, Bloomberg reported.

The resolution allows Barrick to resume production at Loulo-Gounkoto and stabilises its operational presence in Mali, highlighting the delicate negotiations multinational mining firms face in politically sensitive regions.
