Awash Bank’s total assets surpassed 624 billion birr in the 2025/26 financial year, making it one of Ethiopia’s largest private lenders by balance-sheet size, as the bank reported pre-tax profit of 38.3 billion birr.

The bank’s total revenue reached 84.6 billion birr during the financial year, while customer deposits stood at 469.3 billion birr. Its outstanding loans exceeded 274.1 billion birr, and total capital surpassed 90 billion birr, according to figures presented to shareholders.

The lender also generated more than 2.6 billion US dollars in foreign exchange and paid 15.77 billion birr in taxes. It allocated more than 500 million birr to corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The results were presented by Gure Kumsa, chairman of Awash Bank’s board of directors, during the bank’s 31st Ordinary and 19th Extraordinary General Meetings of Shareholders, held at Skylight Hotel.

Established 32 years ago with five branches and 137 employees, Awash Bank has expanded its operations to more than 1,010 branches and a workforce of over 20,658, reflecting its growth from a relatively small lender into one of the country's largest banking institutions.

The bank also highlighted its international recognition, including being named Ethiopia’s leading bank by Global Finance magazine for five consecutive years and receiving the WSBI-ESBG Sustainable Development Goals Award for a second time.

Awash Bank attributed its performance to customer confidence, employee commitment and the contributions of its board of directors and executive management.
