A pre-owned black leather jacket signed and worn by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has sold at a Sotheby's auction for $960,000. The final sale price significantly exceeded the initial pre-sale valuation of $40,000 to $60,000. The garment, a black Tom Ford leather jacket, represents the signature aesthetic that Huang has maintained at public product launches, corporate keynotes, and industry trade shows for nearly two decades.

The specific jacket sold was worn by the executive during a 2023 promotional event at Foxconn in Taipei, Taiwan. The final transaction followed a competitive bidding process involving 65 bids from 45 different collectors. The high valuation highlights growing market interest in physical artifacts associated with the ongoing artificial intelligence and technology boom. The auction price also stands in sharp contrast to the standard retail cost of the designer garment, which is valued at just under $10,000.

"The response to this sale surpassed even our highest expectations," said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles. The proceeds from the auction will be directed to a philanthropic initiative supporting the Edge Institute, a non-profit organization focused on technological innovation. The funds will be utilized to finance fellowships, academic grants, and research residencies.

Over the years, Huang has frequently commented on his consistent wardrobe choice, humorously attributing his uniform to his family's styling choices. The look has also drawn playful interactions from other technology executives. In 2024, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg participated in a friendly clothing swap with Huang, later receiving another of Huang's personal jackets during an onstage appearance.

The record-breaking sale reflects the growing cultural and financial value placed on items associated with influential technology leaders in the era of artificial intelligence. This auction marks another milestone in the intersection of fashion, technology, and philanthropy.
