The African Union Commission and Egypt have signed an agreement formalising arrangements for the African Union’s eighth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, scheduled to take place in El Alamein on October 4, 2026.

The agreement was signed by Selma Malika Haddadi, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and Mohamed Abubakr, Egypt’s Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs.

The meeting brings together the African Union, regional economic communities and regional mechanisms to coordinate the implementation of the continent’s integration agenda.

The eighth session is expected to review progress in the division of responsibilities among the African Union, the regional economic communities and regional mechanisms, while identifying priorities requiring continued coordination.

The meeting will be held in accordance with an African Union Assembly decision that designated El Alamein as the venue for the 2026 session.

The signing follows preparations between the African Union Commission and the Egyptian government to finalise arrangements for the meeting.

The Mid-Year Coordination Meeting is the African Union’s main forum for coordinating work between the continental body and Africa’s regional economic communities and mechanisms, particularly on continental integration.
