Apple has rolled out a major artificial intelligence overhaul of its Siri voice assistant, introducing expanded web-based capabilities, deeper device integration and a new standalone application as part of a broader software push unveiled at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference.

The upgraded system, branded “Siri AI,” brings the ability to interpret on-screen content, retrieve information from the internet and use what Apple describes as broad world knowledge to respond to user queries.

Alongside these capabilities, Apple has introduced a dedicated Siri application that stores images and search activity across iPhones, iPads and Macs.

The company said the assistant has been redesigned with a more expressive and conversational voice. The rollout will begin in English, with additional languages expected later.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s software chief, said the redesign reflects a user-focused approach to artificial intelligence. “Truly helpful AI must be centered around you and your needs,” he said.

Device compatibility will extend across Apple’s ecosystem, including iPads, with work underway to adapt the assistant for Apple Watch.
