Apple to Pay 250 Million Dollars to Settle Lawsuit Over AI Feature Claims

Apple has agreed to pay 250 million US dollars to settle a class action lawsuit in the United States over allegations that it misled customers about artificial intelligence features in its iPhones.

The case, which was consolidated last year, accused the company of false advertising related to its Apple Intelligence system, particularly claims surrounding enhancements to its Siri voice assistant. The settlement resolves the claims without Apple admitting any wrongdoing.

Eligible consumers who purchased an iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 between June 2024 and March 2025 will receive payments ranging from 25 US dollars to 95 US dollars, depending on the number of valid claims submitted.

Apple said the dispute focused on "the availability of two additional features" within its wider Apple Intelligence rollout. Lawyers representing the class of iPhone buyers alleged that Apple engaged in false advertising by promoting artificial intelligence capabilities that were not available at the time of marketing, and in some cases would not exist for years, if at all.

According to the complaint, Apple's marketing suggested that the iPhone 16 would introduce a significantly upgraded Siri, shifting it from a limited voice interface to a full personal AI assistant. However, the plaintiffs said the device was released without Apple Intelligence features, and the proposed "Enhanced Siri" functionality did not materialise.
