Apple has launched a new product leasing programme in the United States that allows customers to access iPhone, Apple Watch, Mac and iPad devices through monthly payments, expanding its flexible payment options for hardware purchases. The programme, called Apple Upgrade, is provided through financial technology company Klarna and is available through Apple’s online store, the Apple Store app and Apple Store locations across the US.

Apple Upgrade offers 12- and 24-month leasing options for iPhone and Apple Watch, while Mac and iPad customers can choose between 24- and 36-month plans. Monthly lease prices start at 17.99 US dollars for iPhone, 11.99 US dollars for Apple Watch, 24.99 US dollars for Mac and 11.99 US dollars for iPad.

“At Apple, we put the customer at the centre of everything we do,” said Karen Rasmussen, Apple’s vice-president of Apple Store online. “We’re thrilled that Apple Upgrade offers our customers, both online and in-store, a more flexible way to pay for the products they love.” Customers joining the programme can reduce their monthly lease payments by trading in their existing devices through Apple Trade In. Those who make lease payments using Apple Card can also receive 3 percent Daily Cash back.

The leasing process allows customers to apply online or in stores and receive approval from Klarna within minutes. Applications are subject to a soft credit inquiry that does not affect a customer’s credit score. Once approved, customers can complete purchases as usual, with in-store buyers receiving their devices immediately and online customers choosing delivery or store pickup. Apple said customers will also have access to its Personal Setup service and free Today at Apple sessions to help them set up and learn how to use their devices.

At the end of the lease period, customers can upgrade to the latest device generation, purchase their existing device through a one-time payment or return it and exit the programme. Customers can manage lease information, including billing schedules and remaining payments, through the Klarna app. Apple said customers can add AppleCare subscriptions to protect leased products, making the return process and transition to upgraded devices easier. The launch replaces Apple’s existing iPhone Upgrade Programme and iPhone Payments options in the US. Existing iPhone Upgrade Programme customers who are eligible will have the option to move to Apple Upgrade, use Apple Card Monthly Installments, purchase devices outright or choose carrier financing. The leasing programme comes as technology companies increasingly explore alternative ownership models, including subscriptions and financing arrangements, to lower upfront costs and encourage customers to upgrade devices more regularly. Apple also highlighted its latest product lineup, including iPhone 17e, iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, with iPhone leasing under Apple Upgrade starting at 17.99 US dollars per month.
