Apple is deepening its investment in the United States semiconductor supply chain through a new agreement with Broadcom that will expand domestic production of advanced chip components and wireless technologies.

The multiyear partnership, valued at more than 30 billion US dollars, will lead to the manufacture of more than 15 billion US-made chips and support hundreds of jobs, as Apple seeks to increase local production capacity for components used across its product portfolio.

Broadcom will expand and modernise its manufacturing operations in Fort Collins, Colorado, through a 1.5 billion US dollar capital investment. The facility will produce advanced radio frequency components, including film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) filters, alongside other wireless connectivity technologies.

The investment represents the largest commitment so far under Apple’s American Manufacturing Program, which was launched last year to accelerate manufacturing activities within the US and strengthen domestic supply networks.

Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook said the expanded partnership with Broadcom reflects the company’s continued focus on US-based manufacturing and innovation.

“Apple and Broadcom have a long history together, and this new phase of our partnership further accelerates our commitment to American manufacturing and innovation,” Cook said.

Broadcom President and Chief Executive Officer Hock Tan said the company would continue working with Apple to expand its manufacturing presence in the US.

“With Apple’s newest commitment, we’re pleased to expand our manufacturing footprint in Fort Collins, where we create groundbreaking technology that connects people around the world,” Tan said.

The agreement forms part of Apple’s wider commitment to invest 600 billion US dollars in the US economy over four years, with the investment programme focused on manufacturing, employment creation and technology development.

Apple said the partnership with Broadcom will contribute to building a more integrated domestic silicon supply chain, reducing reliance on overseas production for key semiconductor components.
