Micron Technology has entered into a strategic partnership with artificial intelligence startup Anthropic that combines infrastructure development, long-term supply commitments, enterprise AI deployment and a financial investment in the company's latest funding round.

The agreement deepens ties between one of the world's largest memory chipmakers and a leading AI model developer as demand for computing infrastructure accelerates with the expansion of generative AI technologies.

Under the partnership, the two companies will collaborate on the design and optimisation of memory and storage systems used in AI training and inference workloads. The effort will focus on improving performance, energy efficiency and operating costs across Anthropic's AI infrastructure.

Micron said its portfolio of high-bandwidth memory, DRAM and solid-state drives would play a central role in supporting Anthropic's future computing requirements.

The companies have also signed a multi-year supply agreement that will provide Anthropic with access to Micron's data-centre memory and storage products as the AI developer expands its computing capacity.

The deal highlights the growing importance of memory and storage technologies in the AI industry, where demand for advanced chips and supporting infrastructure has surged alongside the development of increasingly powerful foundation models.

Sumit Sadana, executive vice-president and chief business officer at Micron, said the partnership reflects the increasingly critical role of memory and storage in AI systems.

"The AI revolution has permanently elevated the role of memory and storage solutions from the data center to the edge," he said.

Tom Brown, co-founder and chief compute officer at Anthropic, said the company viewed memory and storage infrastructure as central to the efficiency of training and deploying its Claude family of AI models.

"Partnering with Micron means we collaborate closely on optimizing these systems for our workloads and secure the supply we need," Brown said.

Micron has also expanded the use of Anthropic's Claude models across its operations, including software engineering, manufacturing and enterprise functions, as part of efforts to improve productivity and automate complex workflows.

In addition to the technology and supply agreements, Micron disclosed that it has participated in Anthropic's Series H funding round through a strategic investment. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed.

The announcement reflects a broader trend across the technology sector, where semiconductor manufacturers and AI developers are forging closer partnerships to secure critical infrastructure and meet rapidly growing demand for computing resources.
