Angola is exploring a direct air link between its capital, Luanda, and Guangzhou, China, as state-owned TAAG Linhas Aereas moves to reduce projected losses to about 90 million US dollars in 2026 from 123 million US dollars last year.

Clovis Rosa, chairman of TAAG, said the proposed route would strengthen economic ties between the two countries. He highlighted that Angola’s new airport outside Luanda, inaugurated in late 2023, is designed to handle up to 15 million passengers annually.

Rosa did not provide a specific timeline for a return to profitability, stressing that sustainability remains the airline’s priority. “We are growing with discipline, increasing fleet utilization and strengthening revenue generation. That is the path,” he told Bloomberg.

The potential route is part of a broader strategy by the carrier to improve operational efficiency while expanding its international network.
