The Amhara Regional State Peace Council has announced that its leader, who was serving as the leader of the North Gojam Zone Council, has been killed by militants.

The council's North Gojjam Zone leader, Melake Mihret Nekasinda Gennet, "has been pleading with the armed forces to engage in dialogue with the government, for peace to prevail, and for the suffering of the people of the region to end," the council said in a report broadcast on regional television, citing a letter written to it

The report included a statement from the council stating that the militants “took the council leadership to the militant stronghold called Dahna Mariam and subjected them to torture” and that “the militants killed them on August 02, 2025.”
