American Airlines and Taiwan-based STARLUX Airlines have launched a codeshare partnership that will give passengers more options for travelling between the United States and Taipei.

Under the agreement, American will place its code on STARLUX-operated flights from Los Angeles, Ontario, San Francisco and Seattle to Taipei Taoyuan International Airport.

The partnership will also cover flights from Phoenix to Taipei, subject to regulatory approval.

The agreement comes as the two airlines seek to strengthen connections between North America and Asia, including for business travel involving industries such as semiconductors.

“Taipei remains a top destination for global business, visiting friends and family and leisure travel, and together with STARLUX Airlines, we’re partnering to provide new travel options,” said Anmol Bhargava, American Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Alliances.

The codeshare will allow customers to book Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class seats on eligible STARLUX flights through American’s website and mobile app.

Members of American’s AAdvantage programme will also be able to earn miles and Loyalty Points when booking eligible American codeshare flights operated by STARLUX.

The airlines said they will explore additional cooperation, including mileage redemption and other travel benefits.

For STARLUX, the partnership expands access to its network in Asia through American’s North American operations.

“American Airlines is an ideal partner, with a network across North America that complements what we’ve built across Asia,” said Glenn Chai, STARLUX Airlines’ CEO. “Together, we can provide our passengers with a more seamless and convenient travel experience between two of the world’s most dynamic regions.”

STARLUX operates flights between the US and Taipei using a premium-focused service model, including Business Class seats with lie-flat beds and privacy doors, as well as Premium Economy cabins with additional leg and foot support.

The new codeshare gives passengers access to those cabin options through American’s booking channels while expanding the reach of both airlines across the trans-Pacific market.
