The Automotive Manufacturing Company of Ethiopia (AMCE) , a portfolio company of Ethiopian Investment Holdings, is marking 50 years of partnership with global vehicle manufacturer IVECO, a collaboration that has contributed to the country’s industrial development and transport modernization since 1975.

The partnership has resulted in the assembly and delivery of more than 30,000 IVECO commercial vehicles, including the widely used 682N3 trucks, Trakker models, T-Way vehicles, Leoncino buses and custom trailers built to support Ethiopia’s logistics and public service sectors.

Established in 1970, AMCE entered a joint venture with Italy’s FIAT, later IVECO, in the early 1970s. Over the decades, the collaboration has expanded beyond vehicle production to include skills development, technology transfer and support for local workshops and service providers in cities including Adama and Bahir Dar.

“As Ethiopia modernizes its logistics sector and advances industrial growth, partnerships like this play an important role,” said Brook Taye, CEO of Ethiopian Investment Holdings. “AMCE is a strong example of how joint ventures can create long-term value for the economy and support broader national goals. The next phase of this partnership will address logistics sector challenges and introduce IVECO’s electric vehicles to the Ethiopian market.”

The joint venture has also helped build a base of technical expertise in Ethiopia’s after-sales and maintenance industry. Service providers and local manufacturers have gained access to training and support, contributing to the wider industrial ecosystem.

“For 50 years, AMCE and IVECO have worked together to deliver reliable, locally assembled vehicles that serve the country’s needs,” said Antonio Caruso, general manager of AMCE. “We are proud of what we have achieved and remain committed to continued collaboration and innovation.”
