The attack comes as Al-Shabaab continues to wage an insurgency against the Somali government and conduct attacks in areas controlled by federal and regional authorities.

Southwest State said it remained committed to protecting civilians and countering the militant group, while offering condolences to families of those killed and wishing those wounded a speedy recovery.
