New York Attorney General Letitia James has been indicted on federal charges.

James, who led the civil fraud investigation into Trump in 2023, was indicted on bank fraud charges in Alexandria, Virginia, according to court documents.

Prosecutors have charged James with bank fraud and providing false information to a financial institution regarding a mortgage on a house in Norfolk, Virginia.

James accused the president of “using him as a weapon to attack our justice system.”

Trump has recently publicly pushed for prosecutors to bring criminal charges.

"He is forcing federal law enforcement to prosecute. All of this is happening because I did my job as the Attorney General of the State of New York," she said.

"These charges are baseless. The President's public statements clearly demonstrate that whatever their purpose, they are purely political."

US Attorney Lindsay Halligan, who is handling the case, said the case "proves that no one is above the law."

"The charges are intentional, criminal acts and a gross violation of public trust," she said.
