“The TPLF group has openly begun its usual terrorist activities by entering the Afar regional state today, taking control of 6 villages by force, and attacking innocent people with mortars and Z-23s,” the Afar National Regional State accused.

In a statement issued by the regional communications office, the group “clearly violated the Pretoria Agreement by crossing the border into the special areas of Tonsa Kebele Waraa and Milki in Zone 2 of the Afar region on 05/11/2025, targeting innocent Afar pastoralists with heavy weapons.

The statement warned, "If the TPLF group, which has not learned from its past mistakes, does not immediately refrain from its actions, we declare that the Afar National Regional State will fulfill its responsibility to protect the security of its citizens and the dignity of its people, as well as to defend itself from any external attack."
