The Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations is planning to register 482,000 traders operating in the city as members, as it seeks to strengthen its engagement with the business community, particularly small-scale traders, its president Zahara Mohammed said.

The chamber has recently held discussions with traders across all 11 sub-cities of Addis Ababa as part of efforts to improve awareness about its mandate and role in representing businesses.

Zahara said the institution had spent years without giving sufficient attention to small traders, while many members of the business community had limited understanding of what the chamber does and whose interests it represents.

"The business community previously did not know what the Addis Chamber does, what its objective is and whose rights it stands for," Zahara said.

She said awareness about the chamber and sectoral associations has since improved, adding that the institution is working to ensure traders understand both their rights and responsibilities.

As reported by Ahadu Radio, Zahara urged traders not to allow anyone to infringe on their rights or take advantage of them.

She encouraged traders with complaints or concerns to approach the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations for support and submit their cases through the institution.
