The Addis Ababa Trade Bureau has taken administrative measures against more than 350 traders over illegal business practices following consumer complaints received over the past 10 months.

The bureau said the actions were carried out through its Consumer Protection Directorate after investigations linked to complaints submitted through the 8588 toll-free hotline and in-person reports. According to the bureau, 40 traders operating in weekend markets were removed from market linkages, while 139 traders received final warnings.

Mohammed Alabo, director of the Consumer Protection Directorate, said the office had undertaken extensive activities aimed at strengthening consumer rights protection. The bureau added that monitoring of misleading advertisements would continue under an expanded enforcement campaign.
